There's pretty much nothing better than the first morning walk in Maui. Being on BC time is a distinct advantage, as we're up long before the sun arrives along with the heat, which can make walking a challenge. Serenaded by birdsong and sharing a sidewalk covered with plumeria blossoms carried down by the night breeze is a pretty darned sweet way to begin a day. Today, on what would have been my mother's 95th birthday, I walk in her footsteps on the pathways we shared so many times over the years and I think how proud and happy she would be to know that I am here on her day, in her cherished place, with her grandchild and great-grandchild. I am overwhelmed with gratitude.
